Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Kitsu ("we", "us", "our") is a focus and productivity app designed to help you build better habits through gamified missions, AI coaching, and community features. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the Kitsu mobile app and website (kitsu-app.com). By using Kitsu, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your email address, name, and an encrypted password (hashed using industry-standard argon2 encryption — we never store passwords in plain text). Profile Data: Your display name, age (optional), neurodivergency profile type (e.g. ADHD, anxiety, burnout), coaching style preference, selected skills, and app library preferences. Mission & Progress Data: Missions you create, completion history, XP earned, level progression, streak data, and skill XP breakdown. Community Data: Missions you share publicly, reactions (likes/dislikes) on community missions, guild memberships, and content reports you submit. Social Handles (Optional): Instagram and TikTok handles you choose to display on shared community missions. Usage Data: App interaction events such as focus-drift events (when you leave the app to open a watchlisted app during a focus session) and session timestamps. Device Information: We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or location data. Location is never requested or stored.

3. How We Use Your Information

Personalization: Your profile type and coaching style are used to tailor the AI coaching experience, XP goals, and mission difficulty. AI Coaching: When you use the AI Check-in feature, we send anonymized coaching context to our AI service provider (Anthropic Claude). This includes your level, XP, coaching style, and mission context only — no personally identifiable information (name, email, age) is sent to the AI service. Community Features: Your display name and social handles (if provided) are shown on missions you share with the community. Analytics: Aggregated, anonymized data is used to improve the app experience. We do not sell or share individual user data with third parties for advertising purposes. Communication: We may send welcome emails and milestone celebration emails to the address you provide. You can opt out at any time.

4. Third-Party Services

Anthropic Claude (AI Service): Used for AI coaching responses. Receives only anonymized coaching context (level, XP, coaching style). Anthropic's privacy policy applies to data processed by their service. They do not use your data for training purposes. ZeptoMail (Email Service): Used to send transactional emails (welcome, milestone, password reset). Only your email address and name are shared with this service. We do not use any advertising SDKs, analytics trackers, or share data with social media platforms.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in secure PostgreSQL databases hosted on Neon (cloud database provider) with encryption at rest and in transit. Passwords are hashed using argon2 — an industry-leading password hashing algorithm. We never store, log, or transmit plain-text passwords. All API communications use HTTPS encryption.

6. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (Settings → Delete Account), all personal data is permanently and irreversibly deleted from our systems, including: • Profile information (name, email, age, preferences) • All missions and completion history • XP, level, and skill data • Guild memberships • Community missions you've shared • Content reports • Authentication credentials This deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. It complies with GDPR's right to erasure (Article 17).

7. Your Rights

You have the right to: • Access your data: View all your profile, mission, and progress data within the app. • Correct your data: Update your profile information at any time in Preferences. • Delete your data: Permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings. • Export your data: Contact us at hello@kitsu-app.com to request a data export. • Withdraw consent: You can stop using AI features or delete your account at any time. To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app settings or contact us at hello@kitsu-app.com.

8. Children's Privacy

Kitsu is designed for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@kitsu-app.com and we will promptly delete it.

9. User-Generated Content

When you share missions to the community, your display name and optional social handles become publicly visible to other Kitsu users. You can: • Report objectionable content using the Report button on any community mission. • Block abusive users to prevent their content from appearing in your feed. We review all reports and may remove content or suspend accounts that violate our community guidelines.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or via email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Kitsu after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
